I would like to introduce Cerebral Blueprint's new face. I am currently giving the page a face lift before linking it to my new site and will be incorporating this friendly robot to give the blog an icon that represents the playful nature of the Blueprint .

METALWORK: the ballpoint holster

I am really a novice in jewelry work but it was fun getting some experience in metals on smaller scale than I am used to. This is the first of 3 designs (all unrelated). The function was to act as a holster for a pen. The pen is just a cheap ballpoint but it holds sentimental value because I used it at work in Shanghai over the summer of 2010. The projects main purpose was to act as an exercise to improve my riveting skill. I normally shy from pure ornament but I enjoyed the humor of the concept.

REFURB: Computer Desk

Last week I decided to take some time to sand some years off an old desk. I have been curious as to what the wood looked like underneath this nasty black surface that had been covered with scratches and stains. I was suprised to see that the pine underneath the paint was worthy of a quick fix. I sanded it to about 800 and blacked out the bottom to make the wood really pop on the desktop. This is one of few furniture pieces in the works. I have a few old pallets the will also be refurbished. The Tetris style shelves are still being tweaked but I hope to get them posted soon.

SMARTPHONE: COMPLETE

 Well I am excited to finally make this post that would show the finale of a fascinating project. A special thanks to my partner in crime Mr. Bush on this project. We came to a unique solution in both form and function that is communicated in a simple design in the guise of a fun product. This rendering is missing the bulk of the design involved. I would love to show more but I will be saving the details for my new website currently in construction. Enjoy.

So today I came across a few nostalgic images while organizing old files. What started out as a backing them up to partition my computer, turned into a trip down memory lane of some silly past work from college years. Anyway have a look....possibly a laugh.

SCULPTURE: ALLIGATOR STATUE

So over past few months our design firm ( Idea Zoo LLC.) picked up a unique project. A local school wanted an statue of their mascot built that would stand out from others in the area. After initial design planning we decided to get our hands dirty and build a form from scratch starting with a skeleton of rebar, wrapped with chicken wire and filled with concrete. Blue glass was used in the mixture to create an accent. Our team was green due to the fact that nobody had previous experience with concrete.... here are some shots of the process.

SMARTPHONE update 2

sooooo its been a while since the last update but now we finally have a 3d printed model. It was exciting to see all the parts fit  together as well as it did. Although a few adjustments will need to be made to allow more strength and better fit. The concept of easy assembly/disassembly is definitely there though.
